Paris Metro station near the Eiffel tower

The Eiffel tower was built and erected in 1889. It was named after its engineer Gustave Eiffel. It is 324 meters tall and has 3 floors and 9 elevators. One of the interesting facts is that the height of the tower varies from 15 cm due to temperature variations. It is visited by the most number of people than any other tourist spot in the world. In 2011 6.98 million people ascended on it.  More than 250 million people have visited the tower till 2010.Eiffel tower is divided into three levels; First and second levels are for the restaurants, the third level is an observatory and is 276 m above the ground level. Tickets can be purchased for ascending by stairs or by elevator.  There are over 300 steps from first to the second level. For third level stairs are available, but public is only allowed to use elevators for this level. Around every seven years tower is painted with 50 tonnes of paint to protect it from rusting.

The Nearest Metro station to Eiffel tower is Bir-Hakeim. It is located on the left bank of the bridge ofBir-hakeim over the Seine between Passy and Dupleix metro stations. The station serves line 6 in Boulevard de Grenelle. The station is only 700 meters from the Eiffel tower and it takes 9 minutes to reach it by foot. From the station one can take north-west to Boulevard de Grenelle towards Quai Branly, then turn right onto Quai Branly for 300 meters and the base of Eiffel is reached. It lies in fare zone1.
Other metro stations of Paris Metro which are near the Eiffel tower are Dupleix, Passy, Ecole Militaire, Latour Maubourg and a few others.
