Union Station Route

The Union Station route connects LAX with Bus Stop 1 at Patsaouras Transit Plaza on the east side of Union Station. The FlyAway ticket kiosk is at the south end of the plaza near Bus Bay 1, and passengers should enter from the Vignes Street side.

This route is useful if your trip connects with Metro Rail, Metrolink, or Amtrak. Union Station also works well for travelers coming from other parts of the local transport system before continuing to the airport.

Van Nuys Route

The Van Nuys route runs between LAX and the dedicated FlyAway Bus Terminal at 7610 Woodley Avenue. It is the only FlyAway stop described with its own passenger terminal, parking areas, and passenger drop-off access from Woodley Avenue.

This path train alternative is often used by San Fernando Valley travelers who want direct airport transport without driving into the LAX terminal loop.

LAX Terminal Stop Order

For trips from LAX toward Van Nuys, buses begin at Terminal 1 and continue through the Central Terminal Area before leaving the airport. The same terminal pattern helps passengers understand the route before boarding.

LAX FlyAway

Schedule, Frequency, and Travel Time

LAX FlyAway runs daily, with service available on both the Union Station and Van Nuys routes. Working hours, opening times, and exact timings can vary by direction, so check the schedule today before leaving for the airport. Traffic can also change the running time, especially in and around LAX.

FlyAway is a bus system, not a rail or tramway service, so there is no last train. If you connect from Metro Rail, Metrolink, or another train schedule, check the last train separately before planning a late-night trip.

Union Station Schedule

Fares, Tickets, and Payment Methods

FlyAway tickets can be purchased through the mobile app, online as a web ticket, at eligible station machines, or on the bus with contactless payment. The fare section lists the one-way ticket price as US$12.75. Some route notes still mention US$9.75, so check the posted fare before you ride.

Cash is not accepted on the bus. There is no reservation system; seating is first come, first served.

Mobile, Web, and Contactless Payment

The mobile ticket is the quickest option for many riders. Buy the ticket in the FlyAway app, activate it only when boarding, and scan it on the validator inside the bus.

  • Mobile ticket: Buy in the FlyAway app, activate at boarding, and scan on the bus.
  • Web ticket: Buy online and scan the QR code from your phone or a printed copy.
  • Contactless payment: Pay on board with a Visa or Mastercard contactless credit or debit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.
  • TAP card: TAP payment is noted as available where station TAP readers are provided.
  • Metrolink ticket vending machines: Union Station route tickets are available at Metrolink machines at train stations.

Mobile and web tickets are valid for 60 days from purchase. Once a mobile ticket is activated, it remains valid for 3 hours, or 180 minutes.

Discounts, Passes, and Child Fares

Metrolink Monthly Pass holders may ride the Union Station FlyAway at no additional cost when they show proof of a same-day flight to or from LAX, such as a boarding pass or airline purchase confirmation. This pass benefit applies to the Union Station route, not the Van Nuys route.

Metro EZ Pass holders may qualify for no additional cost or a discounted fare, depending on the fare zone. Employee monthly passes are also available for purchase, but there are no group rates, family rates, or senior discounts listed.

Children ages 5 and under may ride free. Two children under age 5 can ride free with each paying adult.

Riding LAX FlyAway is straightforward: choose your route, confirm the timetable, buy or prepare your ticket, and board at the correct stop. If you are connecting from Metrolink, you can select LAX as the destination when buying your ticket in the Metrolink app or at a ticket vending machine.

Boarding closes 2 minutes before departure, so arrive early. At Van Nuys, preboarding at the departure doors closes 5 minutes before departure. FlyAway recommends arriving at least 10 minutes before the desired service time, and it is smart to allow more time during busy travel periods.

From LAX to Union Station or Van Nuys

After landing at LAX, go to the Lower/Arrivals Level and look for the blue FlyAway columns in front of the terminal. Each bus is marked with its destination, so confirm whether it is going to Union Station or Van Nuys before boarding.

Bags usually go in the baggage compartment under the bus. Keep your ticket ready, listen for terminal or stop announcements, and allow extra running time when airport traffic is heavy.

From Union Station or Van Nuys to LAX

At Union Station, board at Bus Stop 1 in Patsaouras Transit Plaza at Union Station East. Follow signs for LAX FlyAway or Patsaouras Bus Plaza, and use the ticket kiosk near Bus Bay 1 if you need help.

At Van Nuys, board at the FlyAway Bus Terminal at 7610 Woodley Avenue. Motorists may drop off or pick up passengers at the terminal entrance on Woodley Avenue.

At LAX, buses drop passengers on the Upper/Departures Level at the terminals. The driver will call out terminal stops, which helps if you are not sure where to get off.

Connections with Other Transit

LAX FlyAway connects with several public transport options across Los Angeles. Union Station links the route with rail and intercity services, while LAX/Metro Transit Center connects airport travelers with Metro Rail and municipal bus service. This makes FlyAway part of the wider transportation in Los Angeles, alongside buses, trains, shuttles, and ride app services.

Connections at Union Station

Union Station offers transfers to Metro Rail, Metrolink, and Amtrak. The FlyAway stop is at Patsaouras Transit Plaza, Bus Stop 1, on the east side of the station.

For Metrolink riders, the LAX FlyAway fare can be added when buying a ticket. Metrolink Monthly Pass holders with same-day flight proof may use the Union Station FlyAway route to or from LAX at no additional cost.

Connections from Van Nuys

The Van Nuys FlyAway Terminal is a dedicated bus terminal at 7610 Woodley Avenue. It provides direct airport bus service to LAX and includes passenger drop-off, pick-up, and station parking.

The terminal is especially useful for San Fernando Valley travelers who want a direct airport connection without using the LAX Central Terminal Area by private car.

Connections at LAX and the LAX/Metro Transit Center

The LAX/Metro Transit Center connects with the C Line, K Line, and Metro bus lines 102, 111, 117, 120, and 232. A free LAX shuttle links the transit center with airport terminals from Bus Bays 1 and 2, running frequently and serving every terminal.

Free LAX Transportation shuttles also connect terminals with LAX Economy Parking, LAX/Metro Transit Center, and employee parking lots. Until the People Mover opens, the shuttle remains the temporary connection between the transit center and passenger terminals.

Ride app services and taxis use the LAX-it lot next to Terminal 1 for airport pickups. Private vehicle pickup and drop-off are not provided at the LAX/Metro Transit Center.

Parking

Parking depends on where you board. Van Nuys has FlyAway parking for bus patrons, while Union Station uses the garage under Patsaouras Transit Plaza. Parking charges and availability can change, so check posted rates before entering.

Van Nuys FlyAway Parking

Van Nuys FlyAway parking is available at the FlyAway Bus Terminal at 7610 Woodley Avenue. The facility serves FlyAway bus passengers and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis, with reserved parking available at least six hours in advance.

The terminal is described as about 24 miles, or about 39 kilometers, from LAX. Parking rate notes list US$2 per hour, with daily maximums shown in materials as US$5 to US$6 per day. A 30-day limit applies, and the maximum vehicle height is 8 feet.

Parking areas are regularly patrolled by airport security. Electric vehicle charging is also noted at the facility.

Union Station Parking and Passenger Drop-Off

Union Station FlyAway passengers can use the Gateway Center Garage under Patsaouras Transit Plaza, with entrance from Vignes Street. The daily parking charge is listed as US$8 per day, with a 30-day limit.

Private vehicles are no longer allowed to enter the plaza. Passenger drop-off and pick-up use the facility accessible through the underground parking garage from Vignes Street.

Union Station also provides connections to Metro Rail, Metrolink, and Amtrak, making it a practical place to transfer from train or local transport to the airport bus.

Later, the service expanded to several parts of Los Angeles, including Union Station, Hollywood, Santa Monica, Irvine, and Long Beach. Today, the main active routes are:
