Metrorail (Miami) Information
Metrorail (Miami) is the heavy rail rapid transit system that serves 2.2 million inhabitants living in the greater Miami region. The Metrorail started operation in 1984 and the rapid transit system serves 78,100 passengers daily and 21.275 million annually. The total length of the route is 39.3km, serving 23 stations on 2 lines. The heavy rail rapid transit system is operated by Miami-Dade Transit and the Metrorail mainly serves the urban core of Miami. The system currently uses 136 train cars and the rapid transit system is similar to that of subway trains. The system is planned for further extension towards the east-west corridor and north corridor. Metrorail is not only the transit system available within Miami; the automated light rail Metro mover is also operated in South Florida. It also has direct connection with other transit systems and it offers reliable travelling to the passengers within the city.
Metrorail (Miami) Timings, Frequency and Schedule
The Metrorail (Miami) Lines operates from 5 am until an hour or so after midnight, on all seven days of the week. From 5.00 am to 7.00am metro trains are available at an interval of 15 minutes. Between 7 and 10am, metro trains are available at an interval of 7 minutes. From 10am to 4pm, metro trains are available at an interval of 15 minutes. From 4 to 7pm, it will take 15 minutes to get a train. During the weekends a metro train is available at an interval of 30 minutes. Metro rail offers regular services on holidays.

Metrorail (Miami) Fares, Tickets and Cards
To make use of the Metrorail in Miami, an EASY card or a ticket is a must. The fare system for a ticket is different from that of an EASY card.
A single ticket costs $2.25, while the discounted price is $1.10. The fare for a 1-month ticket is $112.50, whereas, the discounted rate is almost half at $56.50. It is valid for an entire calendar month. Students can purchase the monthly pass at the discounted rate. Weekly and daily tickets are also available. The prices for both of them are $29.25 and $5.65, respectively. Along with this, there are special region based monthly passes available at different prices.
An EASY card is a contactless, plastic card with a validity of around 20 years. The fare of the metro using it, is just $2.
Those who have a Golden passport or a Military passport, can use the metro service for free.

Metrorail (Miami) Parking
There are parking lots available at metro stations where passengers can park their vehicle for $4.50 a day, seven days a week including holidays. You can also buy a monthly pass for $11.25. All stations except 5 in downtown area offer parking facilities to metro riders. The rapid transit system also offers long term parking facilities to passengers who wish to travel to the airport. The long term lots can be used for 2 days minimum and 30 days maximum. If you hold the metro pass tickets, you don’t have to pay extra for long term parking. Park and ride lots are open for 24 hours but parking is at the owner’s risk. The metro station parking garages however, are open from only 05:00 am in the morning till midnight, with the one at Earlington Heights being the only one open for 24 hours.

Metrorail (Miami) Services
The disabled people riding the metro have certain special privileges, It is primarily for them that announcements are made at regular intervals about trains and their departures/arrivals. They also have a special seating arrangement for them which is infact, reserved for them. An exclusive department catering to the Lost and Found items, within the metro system is also present. Service animals are allowed onboard the trains and within the network, provided they do not pose any threat to the other passengers. Escalators, elevators and other such accessibility services are also available, making it easy for people to use the metro.
Metrorail (Miami) Lines
Currently the rapid transit metro system offers service on two lines serving 23 stations. The lines are recognized by its color. In 2012, the system opened its 23rd station. Metro rail is the full metro system that connects the northern part of Miami to the southern coast through the city center.
● Green line – The green line is 36 km long and the line was opened to the public in 1984. The Green line operates between Dadeland South and Overtown. The construction of this line started in 1979 and all the 22 stations have escalators and elevators.
● Orange line – The orange line was opened in 2012 and it shares most of the route with the green line. The orange line offers services between Dadeland to Miami International Airport. It takes 4 minutes to reach Miami International Airport from Earlington Heights station. The orange line is comfortable, convenient and affordable way to ride towards south.
