Medellin Metro Information

The city of Medellin in Colombia is well known for its innovative and well-maintained public transportation systems. The Metro service in the city, the only one of its kind in the nation, is perhaps the most innovative of all modes of public transportation that the city has to offer to its commuters.

The Metro network in Medellin criss-crosses the limits of the city, running down from the North to the South and also along an east-west corridor. There are two lines to the network, A and B, playing combined hosts to as many as twenty-seven stations. Out of these, there are some stops that will get tourists to some of the key destinations of tourism interest around Medellin, most notably the Botanical Gardens and Plaza de Botero. In order to travel on the Metro, tourists are required to purchase the single-journey UniViajes passes from one of the Metro stations. This makes for the easiest means of travel on the Metro for those who are visiting the city. In case they are required to make multiple trips on the system, it is advisable that they buy a number of UniViajes passes at the same and use them as and when required on their travels.

It is extremely easy to use the Metro service as long as tourists remain aware of the stations where the service won’t stop along the way. Even if they board the wrong train, it is not much of a worry as they can easily get off and board the correct service without being charged any sort of fine. The service is also very clean and not as crowded as one would expect from such a popular means of public transportation. It is also the best place in Medellin that people can use as meeting points with their friends.
