Ningbo Rail Transit Information
The Ningbo Rail Transit, currently under development, serves the people of Ningbo, China and is only the second metro network in operation in Zhejiang Province. The rapid transit operates on just 2 lines, with a total of 6 lines planned. The idea is to connect the city’s urban areas by metro. With a track length of 74.5 km, the metro currently serves 51 stations and is owned by the Ningbo Rail Transit Group. It is an extremely young metro system, having started operations just 2 years ago, on 30 May 2014. In its first year, it had a peak daily ridership of 151,400.

Ningbo Rail Transit Frequency
Trains on the Ningbo Rail Transit have a headway that varies from a minimum of 7 minutes to a maximum of almost 9 minutes.
Ningbo Rail Transit Rules and Tips
Anyone travelling on the metro without a valid ticket will be fined five times the highest fare on the metro. The same applies to passengers who ‘overstay’. People with any kind of disability can travel free of charge on the metro, provided they have certain documents to support their claim. Explosives, flammable substances, etc. are prohibited. Bicycles are also not allowed on the metro, unless they’re folding. Animals (pets) and luggage weighing more than 20 kg are also not allowed on the metro. Guide dogs/animals are an exception to this rule.
Ningbo Rail Transit Lines
Line 1 runs in an east-west direction, starting as a viaduct to the west of Gaoqiao Town and entering an underground tunnel as it approaches Haishu District. The tunnel continues under the city’s main road – Zhongshan Road – before crossing the Fenghua River to enter Jiangdong District. It continues to Ningbo East Town and terminates at Qiuga Town, with plans to extend the service to Beilun District.
Line 2 only started operating last year and provides service from Lishe International Airport to Qingshuipu. The line runs east from Lishe International Airport through underground tunnels. It passes through Ningbo Textile City and Ningo Railway Station. Plans are already underway to extend the line further into Xiaogang Township.
