Recife Metro Information
The Recife Metro service, or Metro as it is simply referred to, is the Metro railway service that is in operation in the Brazilian city of Recife. Operated jointly by Metrorec and CBTU, the current service has a route that is nearly forty kilometers long and caters to as many as twenty-nine stations along the way. Recife Metro has daily ridership of 225,000.
Recife Metro Lines and Hours
There are primarily two lines in operation for the Recife Metro network: the South Line and the Central Line with the latter diverging further into two different lines. Trains that leave from the Recife station along the Central Line are headed mainly towards two distinct destinations: the cities of Jaboatao dos Guararapes and Camaragibe. This condition may be out down to the fact that between the stations of Coqueiral and Recife, the Metro system is built on an old railway track that was already in existence when the public transport service was built.
When the system was originally built, the route length was just over twenty-five kilometers. Following an expansion project that was undertaken between February 2005 and March 2009, the service grew to its current extended service spanning nearly forty kilometers in route length. The Metro service also has integrations with the bus networks from several terminals so that commuters can travel on them using a single travel ticket.
A new South Line has also been opened up to provide direct access to the Shopping District and Airport in Recife enroute to the Cajueiro Seco.
