God’s own country Kerala is now has one of the most reliable, cost-effective, modern modes of transit, “Metro”. Kochi Metro has geared up itself to serve the people preliminary in June. The official unveiling of the Metro rail was held on 17 June 2017 by the Prime Minister of India Narender Modi. The second installment of the inauguration is due in August 2017. It holds the credit to be the fastest accomplished metro project in India until the Lucknow Metro came into existence. It is all one of its kind as it is the first metro in the country which links rail, road and water transport facilities. The metro is technologically also very sound as it includes driverless trains and looking forward for a successful implementation in coming days. Kochi metro’s decision to employ the Kudumbashree workers and members of the transgender community definitely deserve much applaud. It has taken another remarkable and appreciative step by introducing non motorized transport corridors in the city, installation of solar panels for power and vertical garden on every sixth metro pillar. It also offers a debit card alongside with Kochi One Mobile App to its passengers which ease down the travel. All these remarkable features make Kochi Metro, one of its kind.
Kochi Metro Lines
Kochi Metro has 2 lines divided into Phase 1 and Phase 2. The phase 1 has 25 stations in it, out of which 11 stations are currently operational. Phase two has 11 stations, but it is still under construction. Presently, this modern mean of transport is functional at these stations:

Kochi Metro Fares
This metro service is not only technologically sound and advanced, but offers a cost-effective travel to its passengers. The fare has been divided into different categories as per the stations covered and the distance travelled. An accumulated list of the fares is mentioned below.
The price for tickets ranges between Rs 10 and Rs 40.
Aluva to Pulinchodu station: Rs 10/-
Aluva to Companypadi, Ambattukavu, Muttam: Rs 20/-
Aluva to Kalamassery, Cochin University, Pathadippalam: Rs 30/-
Aluva to Edappally, Changampuzha Park, Palarivattom: Rs 40/-
Kochi Metro Timings
The first metro of the day starts at 6:00 hrs in the morning and leaves from Aluva station and runs till 22:00 hrs in the night. It keeps functional all the seven days of the week.
Kochi Metro Parking
As the Kochi metro is still in its initial phase, the parking service is only available on two stations out of 11 operational stations. Aluva and Muttam are those esteem stations which caters the parking need of the riders. The passengers have to wait a little longer for the feeder services and more connectivity.
Kochi Metro Rules
Apart from all these world class facilities, Kochi Metro also comes with a definite set of rules and regulations to ensure the smooth functioning of the system. The token or the smart card need to be validated before entering the metro. If caught traveling with an invalid ticket or by unauthorized entry in the station, then the rider is liable to a penalty of imprisonment up to 3 months or fine upto 250 INR or both. Carrying any offensive or prohibited material will charge you a penalty of 500 INR. If a person is responsible for any kind of damage to the metro train and the platform, then he/she would be behind the bar for more upto 10 years. Altering or tempering a token or smart card will lead you an imprisonment upto 6 months or both
